Borderlands 4 SHiFT Codes Drop: Free Golden Keys Available Now

Gearbox Software has officially rolled out the first batch of SHiFT codes for Borderlands 4, giving players the chance to score free loot early in the game’s lifecycle. Announced by CEO Randy Pitchford on X, these codes serve as an initial test of the SHiFT system, which has been a staple across the Borderlands franchise for years.
The two active codes are:
* B9XT3-HX6TT-W6BBW-TTJT3-JTFKX
* 39RTT-3ZR3T-5FJBK-3J3J3-C5CRT
Each provides players with one Golden Key, which can be redeemed in-game or through the official SHiFT website. However, these rewards are only available for a short time, with both codes set to expire on September 16, 2025. Fans who act quickly will be able to use the keys to unlock Golden Chests, gaining access to powerful weapons and gear that can significantly enhance their first playthrough.
SHiFT codes have long been a popular feature of the series. They are often used by Gearbox to engage the community, providing free rewards such as rare loot, cosmetics, and event-based bonuses. In older games, Gearbox frequently released large batches of codes, sometimes offering dozens of keys at once. With Borderlands 4 still in its launch period, it appears the studio is starting small to maintain game balance while still rewarding its players.
The early community response to Borderlands 4 has been encouraging. The game currently holds a Top Critic Average of 85 on OpenCritic, showing strong critical support despite some concerns about PC performance. Gearbox has already released a performance patch, signaling a commitment to ongoing support. As more SHiFT codes roll out in the coming months, fans can expect an evolving balance between generous rewards and fair gameplay. These early Golden Keys are just the beginning of what promises to be an exciting post-launch cycle.
