CDA Fines 48 Islamabad Hospitals Over Fire Safety Violations
CDA hospital fire safety checks have led to fines for 48 hospitals and healthcare facilities in Islamabad. The Capital Development Authority issued challans worth Rs14 million after inspections found safety violations. The action aims to protect patients, staff and visitors during emergencies.
CDA takes action against hospitals
CDA officials inspected hospitals, clinics and other healthcare centres across the capital. They checked compliance with prescribed fire and life safety standards.Following the inspections, the civic agency issued notices to facilities that failed to meet the requirements. Officials then challaned 48 hospitals and healthcare centres.
The facilities include PIMS, Polyclinic and CDA Hospital. KRL Hospital, NESCOM Hospital, NOORI Hospital and MCH Medical Center also received challans.Most of the fined facilities operate in the private sector. However, government hospitals also appear on the list.The CDA has taken the action as authorities increase focus on emergency preparedness. Recent incidents have also raised concerns about fire protection at healthcare facilities.
Police review fire safety measures
Rawalpindi police have also started reviewing fire safety arrangements. Officers are checking firefighting equipment at police stations and other offices.SP Security Asghar Ali Goraya directed senior officers to complete the review. He asked divisional SPs, SDPOs and SHOs to ensure proper equipment at their offices.
Officials must also check existing fire extinguishers and other equipment. If equipment works properly, officers must submit photographs through the SSP Operations group.They must replace missing or faulty equipment without delay. Officials must then send compliance reports to the SSP Operations and SP Security.
Goraya warned that officials could face departmental action over delays. He has also requested detailed reports from SPs and SDPOs.Police stations require strong fire protection because they contain several high-risk areas. These include weapon storage rooms, record rooms, surveillance areas and lockups.A reliable fire safety system can protect personnel, visitors, detainees and vital infrastructure. Therefore, regular inspections and functioning equipment remain essential.
