Egypt Strengthens UK Ties at Going Global 2025 Conference in London
An Egyptian delegation led by Professor Mohammed Aymen Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, joined the British Council’s Going Global 2025 conference in London. The event took place from 28 to 30 October at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre.
Organized by the British Council, the forum brought together over 350 global education leaders from 58 countries. They discussed how universities can adapt, innovate, and serve communities in a changing world. This year’s theme, Resilience, Values, Innovation, aligned with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and its focus on flexible, technology-driven education.
Advancing International Collaboration
Egypt’s delegation included representatives from the Ministry of Higher Education, the Supreme Council of Universities, and top national universities. Their discussions highlighted Egypt’s leadership in digital learning and transnational education (TNE).
According to the latest UUKi report, Egypt now ranks fourth globally for UK TNE, with 32,040 students enrolled in 2023–24. That marks a 13% yearly increase and over 63% growth since 2019.
Professor Ashour expressed pride in Egypt’s rise as a global education hub. He said this progress reflects strong UK–Egypt partnerships and growing international confidence in Egypt’s academic system.
At the conference, Egyptian speakers shared insights on gender equality, digital innovation, and policy collaboration. They also launched the Scaling Digital Higher Education in Egypt report, which outlines ways to expand blended and online learning.
Mark Howard, Country Director of the British Council in Egypt, noted that digital transformation is driving global opportunities. He added that Egypt’s innovative education model strengthens both research and skills development for the future.
