Federal Employees Demand 150% Disparity Allowance in Islamabad Protest
Federal government employees staged a protest in Islamabad on Tuesday, demanding a 150% Disparity Allowance for staff from Grade-1 to Grade-16. The demonstration took place outside the Ministry of Finance and Revenue. Protesters said the government should provide equal financial benefits to lower-grade employees.
Workers from the Federal Secretariat, Capital Development Authority (CDA), and Islamabad Electric Supply Corporation (IESCO) joined the protest. Later, employees from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and several other government departments also participated. As a result, the gathering grew larger during the day.
Employees seek equal salary benefits
The protesters said the government had already granted an Executive Allowance to officers from Grade-17 to Grade-22. According to the employees, that allowance significantly increased officers’ salaries. They claimed some officers received salary increases ranging from Rs70,000 to Rs200,000.
However, the protesters argued that lower-grade employees received only a small increase. They said workers from Grade-1 to Grade-16 received raises of only Rs3,000 to Rs7,000. Therefore, they believe the current pay structure remains unfair.
Employees carried placards and raised slogans outside the ministry. They urged the government to address their concerns without delay. In addition, they called for equal treatment of all federal employees regardless of grade.
Protesters call for 150% Disparity Allowance
The protesters demanded that the government immediately approve a 150% Disparity Allowance for employees from Grade-1 to Grade-16. They argued that the move would reduce the salary gap between lower-grade staff and senior officers. They also said the allowance would help workers cope with rising living costs.
Furthermore, the employees urged the Ministry of Finance to hold talks with their representatives. They expressed hope that the government would announce a positive decision soon. The protesters vowed to continue their campaign if their demand remains unresolved. They maintained that fair salaries and equal benefits are essential for improving employee morale and ensuring justice across the federal workforce.
