FIFA Chief Hails Women Fans in Iran
FIFA President Gianni Infantino praised women fans in Iran after they attended the Iranian Cup final. He called it a “positive step” toward more inclusion in football. The event took place at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium, where hundreds of women finally got to watch live.
The sight of women cheering in the stands created excitement across the country. For many, it marked a rare and emotional moment. However, Infantino said this progress should continue until every woman in Iran can freely attend football matches.
Progress and Hope for Equal Access
Infantino stated that FIFA supports every move toward inclusion. “Football belongs to everyone,” he said. He also reaffirmed FIFA’s mission to make sports equally accessible for all genders.
Iranian authorities allowed a small number of women to attend the final between Persepolis and Esteghlal. These fans waved flags, sang, and celebrated passionately. In addition, tickets for women sold out within minutes, showing strong enthusiasm.
Human rights groups have urged Iran to remove stadium restrictions for women. Therefore, this limited attendance is seen as a hopeful start. As a result, FIFA plans to keep working with Iranian officials to ensure lasting change.
Infantino concluded, “The unity and happiness football brings should include everyone.”
