Final Fantasy: Lost Stranger Volume 14 Officially Releases May 12 in Japan

Final Fantasy fans have another major release to look forward to this week as Final Fantasy: Lost Stranger Volume 14 officially launches in Japan on May 12. The manga series, published by Square Enix, has become a cult favorite among hardcore Final Fantasy fans thanks to its unique blend of isekai storytelling and references to classic RPG mechanics.
Written by Hazuki Minase and illustrated by Itsuki Kameya, Final Fantasy: Lost Stranger follows Sasaki Shogo, a devoted Final Fantasy fan and video game editor who dies in an accident before awakening in a fantasy world inspired by the iconic franchise.
Unlike traditional fantasy protagonists, Shogo possesses no combat abilities. Instead, he relies entirely on his extensive knowledge of Final Fantasy monsters, spells, systems, and mechanics to survive dangerous encounters and navigate the unfamiliar world.

Lost Stranger Continues Expanding Final Fantasy Lore

The manga follows Shogo alongside his sister Yuko and several allies as they search for the mysterious Raise spell, hoping to uncover a way to reverse death itself. Along the journey, readers encounter monsters, magic systems, and references inspired by multiple Final Fantasy entries across the franchise’s history.
The series has become especially popular among longtime Final Fantasy players because it reimagines familiar gameplay concepts inside a narrative-focused fantasy world. Every volume explores themes commonly associated with the franchise, including sacrifice, adventure, and the emotional cost of power.
Volume 14 continues the story following major developments from the previous installment and is expected to push the narrative into darker territory.

English Release Planned Through Yen Press

While Volume 14 launches in Japan this week, publisher Yen Press is still working through the English release schedule. Volume 13 is currently expected to release later this year for North American audiences.
Each volume typically contains nearly 250 pages of content, offering readers a substantial story experience filled with detailed artwork and references to beloved Final Fantasy mechanics. Digital chapter releases are also available ahead of full physical collections.
Final Fantasy: Lost Stranger remains one of the franchise’s most unique spin-off projects and continues to attract fans searching for a fresh take on the legendary RPG universe.
