Fujairah Joins UNESCO Network to Advance Lifelong Learning

The Fujairah UNESCO membership marks an important milestone for the UAE. UNESCO added Fujairah to its Global Network of Learning Cities, joining 72 new members from 46 countries. The network now includes 425 cities that support lifelong learning for nearly 500 million people worldwide.

Commitment to Education

UAE Minister of Culture H.E. Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qassimi said this achievement reflects the country’s focus on education and human development. He noted that Fujairah’s vision promotes community empowerment, innovation, and a knowledge-based economy. The Ministry of Culture backed Fujairah’s candidacy to ensure strong alignment with UNESCO’s global goals.
Fujairah’s entry into the network will boost international cooperation and encourage the exchange of best practices. It will also strengthen the UAE’s leadership in cultural dialogue and creative development.

Fujairah’s Strategy

H.E. Mohammed Al Dhanhani explained that the emirate earned membership through ongoing efforts in digital literacy, infrastructure, and community learning hubs. These steps align with UAE Vision 2031 and the National Strategy for Education 2030. The recognition will support current learning programs and promote sustainable growth.
UNESCO also stated that the newest Learning Cities are reshaping education by turning workplaces, homes, museums, and public spaces into learning environments. This focus helps people access opportunities at every age.

Future Goals

In the next five years, Fujairah aims to expand digital skills, grow artistic talent, and build a Learning City Strategy. Long-term goals include achieving educational equity, developing skilled workers, and strengthening global partnerships.
Local initiatives such as Majlis Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Young Techpreneurs, and the Children’s Book Fair support this vision. Fujairah also promotes sustainability, health programs, inclusion, vocational training, and gender equality to ensure learning reaches all communities.
