Google Gemini Redesign Brings New Overlay and Live Interface to Android

Google Gemini Redesign Brings New Overlay and Live Interface to Android

The latest Gemini Android redesign is rolling out with major visual changes. Google is updating both the Gemini overlay and Gemini Live features. These updates aim to improve usability and make the interface more modern. As a result, users can expect a smoother and more intuitive experience.

New Overlay Design and Features

The Gemini Android redesign introduces a refreshed overlay layout. The interface now combines Tools and attachment menus into one place. In addition, the input bar looks cleaner and slightly smaller. The “Ask Gemini” text appears larger, making it easier to use.
When users tap the plus button, a bottom sheet opens. It shows options like Photos, Camera, Files, and Drive in a carousel format. Moreover, users can access tools such as image creation, video creation, and music generation. Features like Canvas and Guided Learning are also included. These updates make it easier to switch between tools without leaving the screen.

Gemini Live Gets a Floating Interface

The Gemini Android redesign also changes Gemini Live. The feature now uses a floating interface instead of a full-screen view. At the center, users see a waveform display. On the sides, there are options for screen sharing and keyboard access. In addition, a captions button appears in the top corner. This improves accessibility for users.
When users move through their phone, the interface shrinks into a small floating circle. Therefore, it stays out of the way while still being available. The update is currently available in beta through the Google app version 17.3. However, it has not reached all stable users yet. Overall, the redesign shows Google’s focus on making AI tools more seamless and user-friendly
