Google Search Introduces AI Travel Planning with Canvas Feature
Google AI travel planning has launched significant upgrades to Search, introducing powerful new tools for holiday travelers. This comprehensive Google AI travel planning update includes Canvas for itinerary building, AI-powered Flight Deals, and agentic booking capabilities. Julie Farago, VP of Engineering for Search, announced these features can “handle some of the heavy lifting” for trip organization. The enhancements arrive during peak holiday travel season, providing timely assistance for both family visits and vacation planning. Users can now build customized itineraries using real-time data from multiple sources.
Canvas Itinerary Builder and Flight Deals
Google AI travel planning introduces Canvas within AI Mode, creating a dedicated space for organizing travel projects over time. Users simply describe their trip type and requirements, then select “Create Canvas” to generate personalized plans. The system combines real-time flight and hotel data with Google Maps information and web sources. Results include hotel comparisons based on pricing and amenities alongside restaurant and activity suggestions optimized by travel time from accommodations.
Flight Deals expands globally after successful testing in the US, Canada, and India. The AI-powered tool serves flexible travelers seeking affordable destinations through natural language queries. Users describe travel preferences conversationally, and the system identifies optimal bargains across 200+ countries and territories. The feature supports 60+ languages, making international travel planning more accessible worldwide.
Booking Integration and Future Developments
Google AI travel planning now incorporates agentic capabilities for restaurant reservations, event tickets, and appointment bookings. AI Mode searches multiple reservation platforms simultaneously, presenting curated options with direct booking links. Current partners include OpenTable, Resy, Tock, Ticketmaster, and beauty service platforms like Booksy and Fresha. Restaurant booking functionality rolls out this week in the US without requiring Labs opt-in.
Future developments will enable direct flight and hotel bookings within AI Mode. Google collaborates with industry partners including Booking.com, Expedia, Marriott International, and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. The planned experience will allow users to compare options using natural language, review schedules, prices, and amenities, then complete bookings with preferred partners. These advancements aim to reduce planning time while increasing travel enjoyment.
