Google Tightens Rules on Gambling and Graphic Gaming Content
Google is updating its content policies to create a safer online environment. The changes focus on gambling, social casino, and graphic gaming videos. These updates aim to protect younger audiences and ensure compliance with global standards.
New Rules for Online Gambling
Google’s policy already bans content that directs viewers to uncertified gambling sites or apps. However, the company is now extending this rule to cover digital items with real monetary value. This includes video game skins, cosmetics, and NFTs used for gambling-like activities.
In simple terms, if digital goods can be traded or sold for money, they now fall under Google’s online gambling restrictions. Creators who promote such platforms may face stricter enforcement or content removal.
Age Limits for Social Casino Games
Google is also updating its stance on social casino games. These games don’t involve real money but mimic casino experiences. From now on, any content that promotes or facilitates social casino sites will be age-restricted. This ensures that younger users can’t easily access gambling-like entertainment.
Stricter Review of Graphic Game Content
Finally, Google will apply tighter rules to violent gaming content. Videos showing realistic human characters in scenes of torture or mass violence against non-combatants will be age-restricted.
Review teams will assess each video based on duration, focus, and realism. For example, if a video zooms in on violent scenes or includes long, repeated segments, it will face stricter limits.
