Established to give essential goods at subsidized prices, USC expanded to further than 5,500 outlets by 2009 and employed nearly 12,750 workers, but patient losses impelled the government to shut it down. The minister said a special commission chaired by the finance minister, with input from the Ministries of Finance and diligence, perfected a major severance package. For the first time, contractual and diurnal- pay envelope workers are included, icing fair compensation for all staff. Dr Fazal also noted that Pakistan’s frugality was showing enhancement, while expressing grief over recent cataracts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that claimed around 800 lives. He praised relief sweats by the Army, NDMA, parochial governments, and civil society, pressing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directive for critical backing to victims.
