HoYoverse has shared fresh insights into the lore of Honkai: Nexus Anima, its upcoming game set to enter its first beta test soon. Following earlier announcements this year, Nexus Anima expands the Honkai universe by pairing characters with Pokemon-like creatures and serving as a crossover of multiple Honkai titles, including Honkai Impact 3rd and Honkai: Star Rail. Kiana and Blade have already been confirmed as returning characters.
The latest update highlights the game’s central narrative elements. The Nexus represents the “connection between all things,” linking various Planes together. Following a mysterious Sundering event, these connections were shattered, giving rise to Nexus Anima—creatures formed from fragments of the broken Nexus. Nexus Battles have since become the standard method for resolving disputes between characters across the Planes.
In addition to the lore, HoYoverse teased several playable characters, including Sovereigns and Novarchs like Victus, Armand, and Apeiron. Mascot character Nanafey and 4th Sovereign Kumyo Kyo, who bears a striking resemblance to Genshin Impact’s Aether, were also highlighted.
Honkai: Nexus Anima will feature a mix of open-world exploration and an “auto-chess” battle system, continuing HoYoverse’s tradition of blending engaging RPG mechanics with strategic combat. Players can sign up for an iOS-exclusive closed beta until early September. With major updates already scheduled for Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, and Zenless Zone Zero this month, September promises to be a busy period for HoYoverse. The developer has not announced an official release window, but the lore reveals suggest Nexus Anima is on track to capture fans’ attention much like its predecessors.
