Indonesia Expands Internet Access to Support Education Equality
Indonesia internet education remains a top government priority. The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs is expanding internet access to support fair learning opportunities nationwide. The goal is to ensure students benefit equally, regardless of location. Deputy Minister Nezar Patria highlighted the issue in a recent statement. He explained that urban areas enjoy more stable services. However, remote regions still require stronger infrastructure. Internet facilities now reach about 97 percent of populated areas. Despite this progress, service quality differs widely. Therefore, the government plans gradual nationwide improvements.
Improving Speed and Closing the Digital Divide
Indonesia’s average internet speed stands at around 45 Mbps. This figure remains below the Southeast Asian average. As a result, officials see the need for urgent upgrades. The government aims to raise national speeds to 100 Mbps within three years. This plan includes expanding fifth-generation networks. Currently, 5G coverage reaches less than 10 percent of the country. Patria shared these goals during a meeting in Jakarta. He met representatives from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. The discussion focused on digital development and education access. Expanding connectivity supports the right to learning. It also helps reduce gaps between regions. In addition, better internet allows students to access digital classrooms and resources more effectively. Online learning platforms play a growing role in education. Students rely on stable connections for lessons, research, and collaboration. Therefore, internet quality directly affects learning outcomes.
