Islamabad Encroachment Drive Halted After One Constitution Controversy

Authorities have confirmed that the Islamabad encroachment drive halted across the capital. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) paused operations after strong public backlash. The criticism followed action linked to the One Constitution Avenue project.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif intervened to stop an eviction at the high-rise. He also ordered the formation of a committee to review the issue. As a result, officials suspended all anti-encroachment actions for now.
Public reaction quickly grew on social media. Many users questioned the fairness of the operations. Therefore, authorities decided to reassess their approach.

Backlash Raises Fairness Concerns

Recent actions in Bari Imam and Saidpur drew attention. Officials aimed to reclaim state land in these areas. However, critics argued that authorities targeted low-income settlements.
At the same time, people pointed out inaction against influential property owners. This comparison increased pressure on the CDA. As a result, officials admitted that enforcement appeared inconsistent.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi directed authorities to stop operations. He asked them to wait until the issue surrounding One Constitution is resolved.

Committee to Review the Case

Officials also raised concerns about ownership records in the building. Some apartments reportedly lack clear documentation. In addition, authorities suspect links to influential individuals.
The government has formed a committee to investigate the matter. The panel will review records and hear affected residents. It must submit its report within one week.
Until then, CDA will not carry out further operations in Islamabad. Officials say they want to ensure fairness and transparency. Therefore, future actions will depend on the committee’s findings.
