Jazz 5G Spectrum Boost Strengthens Digital Infrastructure
The Jazz 5G Spectrum expansion marks a major step for Pakistan’s telecom sector. Jazz secured 190 MHz of additional spectrum in the country’s latest auction. The company spent about $239 million on the new spectrum. As a result, its total holdings increased from 94.4 MHz to 284.4 MHz. This move strengthens its network capacity and prepares the groundwork for future 5G services. Pakistan is moving toward next-generation connectivity. Therefore, telecom operators are expanding their spectrum resources to meet growing demand.
According to the company, the new spectrum covers several important frequency bands. These include 50 MHz in the 3500 MHz band, 70 MHz in the 2600 MHz band, and 50 MHz in the 2300 MHz band. In addition, Jazz secured 20 MHz in the valuable 700 MHz band. The 700 MHz band offers wide coverage. Consequently, it can improve connectivity in rural and underserved areas.
What the New Spectrum Means for Pakistan
The spectrum expansion will improve both speed and network reliability. It will also support wider 4G coverage while enabling a gradual shift toward 5G. Pakistan still faces connectivity gaps. On average, users consume about 8 GB of mobile data each year. However, the regional average is closer to 20 GB. Nearly 40 percent of subscribers still lack access to 4G services. In addition, about one quarter of the population remains without mobile broadband. Jazz plans to address these challenges through continued investment.
Over the past three decades, the company has invested more than $11 billion in Pakistan’s digital infrastructure. The rollout will follow guidelines set by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication. Aamir Ibrahim said the acquisition strengthens the company’s digital vision. He added that the new spectrum will support better 4G coverage while introducing 5G where it creates real value.
The investment reflects growing confidence in Pakistan’s digital future. As a result, millions of users may soon benefit from faster and more reliable mobile connectivity.
