JI Announces Nationwide August 7 Protests Against Inflation
The JI August 7 protests will take place across Pakistan as Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) intensifies its campaign against inflation and rising fuel prices. JI Ameer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman called on people from all walks of life to participate in what he described as a historic movement. He said the demonstrations aim to pressure the government into providing immediate economic relief to the public.
Nationwide campaign to mobilize public support
Hafiz Naeem announced the protest plan while chairing a review meeting of the party’s nationwide campaign. He said demonstrations would be held on major highways across the country. Protesters will block roads to demand action against rising inflation and increasing fuel costs.
The JI chief urged citizens to participate in large numbers. He said lakhs of people should join the demonstrations to strengthen the movement. In addition, he appealed to young people to support the campaign by using motorcycles to block roads during the protests.
However, Hafiz Naeem stressed that ambulances would receive free passage throughout the demonstrations. He said the party would ensure emergency services continue without interruption. He also warned authorities against interfering with the protests, saying Jamaat-e-Islami would exercise its constitutional and democratic right to peaceful assembly.
Party seeks relief from inflation
Hafiz Naeem said the planned demonstrations would push the government to introduce immediate relief measures. He demanded the abolition of the petroleum levy and called for a review of agreements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs). According to him, these steps would help reduce electricity costs and ease the financial burden on ordinary families.
To build momentum before August 7, Jamaat-e-Islami will organise 20,000 corner meetings across the country. Party workers will use these gatherings to explain the movement’s objectives and encourage greater public participation.
The JI chief also appealed to traders, lawyers, students, workers, professionals, and other sections of society to actively join the protests. He said widespread public participation would send a strong message to the government and increase pressure for economic reforms. He added that peaceful public action remains the most effective way to demand relief from inflation, higher fuel prices, and the rising cost of living.
