Karachi Illegal Billboards Crackdown Ordered by Commissioner
Karachi Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi has directed civic authorities to remove all illegal billboards across the city. He issued the orders during a high-level meeting attended by deputy commissioners, cantonment board officials and representatives of advertising associations. The Karachi Illegal Billboards issue has raised concerns about public safety and violations of court orders. Therefore, authorities have decided to launch strict action against illegal outdoor advertising structures.
Officials from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, town municipal administrations and cantonment boards also attended the meeting. In addition, Karachi Assistant Commissioner (Revenue) Sajjad Abro briefed participants on Supreme Court and High Court directives regarding billboards installed on public property.
Authorities Plan Strict Action Against Violators
During the briefing, officials identified illegal billboards, banners, gantries and hoardings across different parts of Karachi. They also shared detailed information about structures placed on public land. Commissioner Naqvi said all billboards and hoardings installed on public property violate the law. As a result, he directed concerned departments to remove them immediately and take action against those responsible.
The meeting also decided that deputy commissioners, KMC, TMAs and cantonment boards would strictly implement court orders regarding outdoor advertising. Furthermore, authorities agreed to register cases against officers and advertising agencies that violate the directives of superior courts.
Unsafe Structures Also Declared Illegal
Officials stressed that unsafe billboards and hoardings on private property are also illegal. They warned that poorly installed structures can create serious risks for residents and commuters. Therefore, civic bodies will monitor both public and private sites more closely.
Representatives from the Outdoor Advertising Trade Association and Sindh Outdoor Advertisers Association also attended the meeting. Authorities hope the crackdown will improve public safety and ensure compliance with court rulings across Karachi.
