KP Governor Kundi Pushes Tourism and Agriculture for Sustainable Economic Growth
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa must focus on two key sectors for growth. Governor Faisal Karim Kundi stated this clearly on Friday. He said tourism and agriculture are essential for sustainable economic development.
The Governor was talking to a delegation led by Gandhara Properties Chairman Farrukh Raza Chaudhry. The meeting took place at Governor House in Peshawar. Several prominent figures from business and the former government attended.
Discussions covered tourism promotion, religious tourism, and agriculture. Overall economic development in the province was also on the agenda.
Unlocking Tourism Potential
KP is blessed with immense natural beauty and historical significance. However, many tourist destinations lack basic facilities. This limits their potential and visitor satisfaction.
The Governor stressed that the tourism department must act. Improved infrastructure, accommodation, and roads are urgently needed. Essential services must also reach these areas.
Religious tourism offers a vast, untapped opportunity. Proper planning and development initiatives could unlock this potential. The province’s historical and spiritual sites could attract visitors from across the world.
Modernizing Agriculture for Food Security and Exports
Agriculture is the second pillar of the Governor’s vision. Modern farming techniques and technology are critical. They can help meet the province’s food requirements.
They can also contribute to national food security. This dual benefit would significantly strengthen the economy. KP produces high-quality fruits with strong export potential.
With modern technology, cold storage, and value addition, exports could rise. This would earn valuable foreign exchange for the country. The resources are there; they just need strategic investment.
A Call for Investment and Reforms
The Governor was unequivocal about priorities. Investment and reforms in tourism and agriculture are indispensable. They are not optional extras but economic necessities.
He assured that relevant departments would be directed accordingly. They must take effective measures for sustainable development. The goal is to utilize the province’s resources fully and wisely.
The delegation also raised another matter. They thanked the Governor for nominating Scout Aoun Abbas for national awards. Abbas foiled a suicide attack at a mosque in Islamabad. He is now recommended for Tamgha-e-Jurat and Sitara-e-Imtiaz.
The meeting balanced future economic vision with recognition of present-day heroism. Both, in their own way, contribute to a stronger, more resilient Pakistan.
