Market Uncertainty Grows as Trump Truce Extension Shakes Traders

Oil prices and stocks fell on Wednesday. Investors reacted to the Trump truce impact and rising uncertainty. Markets struggled to find direction as tensions between the United States and Iran continued. The decision by Donald Trump to extend the ceasefire added confusion. However, the continued blockade of the Strait of Hormuz kept traders cautious.

Ceasefire Extension Raises Questions

Trump extended the truce at the last moment. He cited Pakistan’s mediation efforts and Iran’s internal challenges. As a result, he allowed more time for Tehran to respond. At the same time, he ordered the military to maintain the blockade. Therefore, tensions remained high despite the pause in attacks. Investors now wait for clear signals from both sides.

Markets React with Caution

Oil prices dipped slightly after recent gains. For example, crude had jumped nearly 3% a day earlier. However, uncertainty quickly erased confidence. Stock markets also moved lower across Asia. Cities like Hong Kong, Sydney, and Seoul saw declines. In contrast, Tokyo and Taipei posted modest gains. Analysts believe traders are waiting for one side to act. Until then, risk appetite may stay limited.

Strait of Hormuz Remains Key Concern

The Strait remains a major flashpoint. It handles about one fifth of global oil shipments. Therefore, any disruption can quickly impact prices. Iran briefly signaled it would allow ships through. However, it later reversed that stance. The US accused Tehran of violating the truce, which added more tension. As a result, oil prices have swung sharply in recent weeks. Still, prices remain below the $100 mark for now.

Fed Leadership Adds Another Layer

Investors also watched developments at the Federal Reserve. Trump’s nominee, Kevin Warsh, faced a Senate hearing. Warsh stressed his independence from political pressure. He promised to keep monetary policy decisions neutral. Meanwhile, Trump continued to push for lower interest rates. This situation adds another layer of uncertainty for markets. Therefore, investors remain cautious in the short term.
