Medical Education Day 2025: Feinberg Embraces Precision Learning

On September 24, Feinberg School of Medicine hosted its 15th Annual Medical Education Day at the Simpson Querrey Biomedical Research Center, bringing together faculty, trainees, students, and staff to explore the future of medical education.
The event featured a robust lineup of workshops, panel discussions, and poster sessions, emphasizing innovation, data-driven teaching, and career development. Attendees shared best practices and explored strategies to enhance medical education across all levels.
“Medical Education Day is a day for us to gather as a community to celebrate excellence in academics and medical education,” said Mary McBride, MD, MEd, director of the Feinberg Academy of Medical Educators (FAME).A major theme this year was precision education—customizing learning experiences to meet the diverse needs of students, much like precision medicine personalizes treatment.
Keynote speaker Sanjay V. Desai, MD, chief academic officer at the American Medical Association, addressed how personalized, data-driven learning models can improve the effectiveness and equity of medical education. “Our structures are more rigid than they should be, and our approaches are more one-size-fits-all than they should be,” Desai noted.
Desai highlighted how AI tools can help identify learning gaps—for instance, analyzing clinical notes to provide targeted feedback to trainees. “Precision education systems in medicine use data and technology to transform lifelong learning,” he said.
The day also included a “Shark Tank”-style competition. The winning project, focused on AI-assisted contour delineation in radiation oncology, was awarded $10,000 in funding.
Breakout sessions and poster presentations covered topics like adaptive tech, bedside teaching, and simulation. The event concluded with an awards ceremony recognizing outstanding educators and newly promoted faculty.
