Meta Introduces New Content Protection for Creators
Meta has introduced a new Meta content protection feature to help creators safeguard their original Reels. The tool scans Facebook and Instagram for any reused content. As a result, creators can react quickly when someone reposts their work without permission.
The system works in a simple way. Once you join the program, every original Reel you upload receives automatic protection. In addition, Meta continuously checks both platforms for full or partial matches. This makes the process easier for creators who want to keep control of their work.
When the tool finds a match, you receive an alert in your Professional Dashboard. The dashboard also lets you protect older Reels by selecting them manually. Therefore, you can secure past uploads along with new ones.
Clear Actions for Every Match
When a match appears, you can choose from three actions. You can Track the post and keep it visible. This option also allows eligible attribution links that add an “original by” label to the Reel. This label sends viewers back to your Page or Profile.
You can also choose Block. This hides the matched Reel on Facebook and Instagram. However, it does not punish the other account. It only limits their reach. Finally, you can release your claim. This leaves the Reel visible but removes it from your dashboard, which means you can no longer follow its performance.
These controls help creators manage potential misuse. However, partial matches may sometimes trigger alerts, even when the content isn’t a direct copy. Meta notes that misuse of claims can lead to restrictions. Reaction videos and compilations also remain ineligible for protection.
Overall, Meta hopes the update gives creators more confidence and more credit for their work. It also supports Meta’s ongoing push to highlight original content and limit repost accounts.
