Mojang has unveiled details for the next big Minecraft update, titled Mounts of Mayhem. Announced during Minecraft Live 2025, the update focuses on expanding the mount system and introducing new ways to explore the world. While it does not yet have a release date, it has been confirmed as the fourth major drop of 2025.
New Mounts and Mobs
Currently, Minecraft only offers horses, donkeys, mules, camels, and pigs as rideable creatures. Mounts of Mayhem will expand that roster significantly. The standout addition is the nautilus, a tameable underwater mob. Players can feed it pufferfish, saddle it, and ride through oceans without consuming oxygen, thanks to a temporary buff called the “Breath of the Nautilus.” Armour for nautilus companions will also be available, crafted in copper, iron, gold, diamond, and Netherite.
Zombie horses are also finally making their survival mode debut. These eerie creatures, previously limited to creative mode since 2013, will now spawn in plains and savannah biomes. While the horses themselves remain passive, they may appear with hostile riders. Defeating the rider will allow players to tame the mount, though zombie horses still burn in daylight.
Zombie nautilus mobs will also appear, ridden by drowned enemies. Their speed makes them more dangerous, raising the stakes for underwater exploration.
New Weapon: The Spear
In addition to new mounts, players will gain access to the spear. This versatile weapon supports both jab and charge attacks, making it ideal for mounted combat. It can also be used while flying with Elytra, riding in minecarts, or even sailing boats, adding flexibility to combat strategies.
Although Mojang has not confirmed the release window, fans expect Mounts of Mayhem to roll out by the end of 2025, continuing the game’s tradition of major holiday updates.
