MQM-P Slams K-Electric Over Prolonged Loadshedding During Karachi Heatwave
The Karachi loadshedding crisis has intensified as the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) strongly criticized K-Electric over prolonged power outages across the city. The party said residents are suffering due to extreme temperatures and frequent electricity cuts during the ongoing heatwave.
In a statement, MQM-P accused K-Electric of worsening the difficulties faced by citizens. Party leaders said people are enduring long hours without electricity at a time when temperatures continue to rise. As a result, many households struggle to cope with the harsh weather conditions.
The party described the situation as a double burden for Karachi residents. According to MQM-P, the combination of scorching heat and extended power outages has created serious hardships for families across the city.
MQM-P Raises Concerns Over Long Power Outages
MQM-P claimed that loadshedding in some areas has reached up to 14 hours a day. The party argued that such lengthy outages have disrupted daily life and affected businesses, students, and working families.
The spokesperson said Karachi serves as Pakistan’s economic hub and should not face such severe electricity shortages. Therefore, the party called on K-Electric to address the issue immediately and improve service delivery.
MQM-P also alleged that the utility company has collected billions of rupees from consumers through electricity bills and overbilling. However, the party claimed that customers have not received better services despite paying higher costs.
Aging Infrastructure Blamed for Outages
The party further criticized K-Electric for failing to modernize its transmission network. According to MQM-P, the company’s infrastructure remains outdated and cannot efficiently handle growing electricity demand.
Party leaders argued that the deteriorating transmission system contributes to frequent breakdowns and prolonged outages. Consequently, residents continue to face disruptions during one of the hottest periods of the year.
The Karachi loadshedding crisis has once again highlighted concerns about the city’s power infrastructure. MQM-P urged authorities and K-Electric to take immediate steps to improve the transmission system and ensure uninterrupted electricity supply for consumers.
