Naval Roguelite Deckbuilder Cursed Tails Announced by Solo Developer

Naval Roguelite Deckbuilder Cursed Tails Announced by Solo Developer

Solo developer announces Cursed Tails, a naval roguelite deckbuilder that combines pirate adventures with card-based combat. Cursed Tails roguelite lets you battle across the seven seas with magical cards that unleash powerful effects. You can rescue fox spirits to add to your ship’s crew throughout your journey. The game offers 9 distinct decks to collect and utilize during your adventures. You can mix and match two decks at a time for unique combinations. Card effects include parrying shots from other ships or using pillars of water to escape danger. One card shown in the trailer references Magic: The Gathering’s infamous Black Lotus. The game draws clear inspiration from both card games and naval adventures.

Beyond Card Combat

Cursed Tails does not slack on the naval side despite its card-based combat system. You can take a break from naval conquest to search for buried treasure on uncharted islands. Power-ups await discovery alongside the treasure hunting gameplay. The upcoming indie game will have plenty to offer fans of both genres.
The combination of deckbuilding and pirates creates a unique match made in heaven. Wackier effects beyond simple cannon volleys appear throughout the trailer footage. The game shares inspirations from Magic: The Gathering with its card-based combat. Naval elements draw from classics like Black Flag and Sea of Thieves.

Release and Development Outlook

Cursed Tails has just released its first trailer on YouTube and Steam. No release date has been announced for the game at this time. Some animation and visuals appear a little rough around the edges in the reveal trailer. The lack of a release date offers plenty of time to refine the overall gameplay experience.
2026 has already become an excellent year for indie games so far. Smaller releases continue beating out major studios like Ubisoft and Capcom. Roguelikes remain one of the most explosively popular genres of the year. Cursed Tails stands out as one of the most creative roguelikes we have seen yet.
