Bouzin attacked with determination in the final round. Nevertheless, Afzal answered with smart movement and sharp counters. He then landed a powerful left hook that forced a standing count. Therefore, he secured a convincing place in the round of 16.
Fatima Impresses While Others Face Setbacks
Fatima Zehra also enjoyed a memorable start in the women’s 50kg event. She controlled the contest from the opening bell. Moreover, she knocked down Lesotho’s Realeboha Segoete three times. The referee stopped the fight during the second round. Consequently, Fatima advanced comfortably to the quarter-finals. Her aggressive style and ring control proved too strong for her opponent. Pakistan’s swimmers experienced a more difficult day. Jehanara Nabi finished 40th overall in the women’s 50m butterfly. Meanwhile, Ahmad Durrani placed 17th in the men’s 200m individual medley and missed the final. Lawn bowls also brought disappointment for the national team. Ayub Qureshi lost his men’s singles opener against Wales’ Ross Owen. Even so, Pakistan’s boxing team delivered an encouraging start.
