Pakistan Fight Back to 313-5 as South Africa Strike in First Test

Pakistan showed strong determination on day one of the first Test against South Africa, finishing at 313 for 5. After early struggles, the middle order helped the team recover and take control. The day ended with both sides feeling they still had a chance.

Early Struggles and a Strong Comeback

Batting first, Pakistan lost both openers early. South Africa’s fast bowlers, Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi, made full use of the new ball. At 45 for 2, Pakistan were in trouble.
However, Babar Azam and Saud Shakeel turned things around with a brilliant 120-run partnership. Babar looked elegant, playing his trademark drives, while Shakeel stayed calm and focused. Their stand shifted the pressure back on South Africa.
South Africa hit back before tea. Rabada dismissed Babar for 76, breaking the key stand. Soon after, Keshav Maharaj trapped Shakeel lbw for 68. Pakistan slipped to 225 for 4 but avoided a collapse.

Sarfaraz and Salman Steady the Ship

Sarfaraz Ahmed and Agha Salman added 65 valuable runs in the final session. Sarfaraz looked confident against spin, while Salman played smartly to support him. At stumps, Salman was unbeaten on 42, and Sarfaraz on 38.
Rabada was South Africa’s top performer with figures of 3 for 74. Maharaj also bowled tightly to restrict scoring.
The match remains finely balanced. Pakistan will aim to post a big total on day two, while South Africa hope for early breakthroughs.
