Apple Retires the Clips App After Years of Service
Apple seems to be wrapping up its support for the Clips app. The company has quietly removed it from the App Store and confirmed it will stop future updates.
According to Apple’s official support page, Clips is no longer available for new users to download as of October 10. However, existing users aren’t completely left out. They can still use the app on current or earlier versions of iOS and iPadOS.
In addition, users who previously downloaded Clips can re-install it from their Apple account anytime. This gives long-time fans of the app a chance to keep creating short videos, even though new updates won’t arrive.
Why It Matters
Apple’s Clips app launched in 2017 as a fun, simple way to create short videos with filters, effects, and text overlays. It was especially popular among casual users and content creators who preferred Apple’s built-in tools.
The rise of apps like TikTok However, with the rise of apps like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts, Clips lost traction. Therefore, Apple’s decision to wind down the app seems like a natural step.
Still, the company hasn’t announced if it plans to bring similar creative features to its other apps. For now, Clips will live on only for those who already have it installed.
