Pakistan Invited to Join US-Led Gaza ‘Board of Peace’
Pakistan has received a significant diplomatic invitation. The United States has asked
Pakistan to join a new Gaza “Board of Peace.” Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi confirmed this development on Tuesday.
Official Confirmation and Response
Andrabi stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received the invitation directly from President Donald Trump. Therefore, Pakistan is now formally considering its role in this initiative. The spokesperson clarified Pakistan’s consistent position. He affirmed that Pakistan will stay engaged with all international peace efforts. These efforts must aim for a lasting solution for Palestine. Crucially, any solution must align with established United Nations resolutions.
Context of the US Peace Plan
This board is part of the second phase of a U.S. peace plan. President Trump originally outlined a 20-point proposal for Gaza. However, the region now faces immense challenges. Israel’s two-year bombardment has left Gaza decimated. The new “Board of Peace” seeks to address this aftermath. Consequently, Pakistan’s potential involvement places it in a complex diplomatic space. The country must balance this invitation with its longstanding support for Palestinian rights under international law.
