Pakistan Iran Ceasefire Extension Supports Peace Talks in Islamabad
Pakistan welcomed the Pakistan Iran Ceasefire extension and called it a step toward peace. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked US President Donald Trump for approving the move. He said the extension will support ongoing talks in Islamabad.
Sharif also shared hope for a lasting agreement. He said Pakistan will continue to promote dialogue and cooperation. As a result, leaders expect progress in the next round of talks.
Pakistan Leads Diplomatic Efforts
Pakistan helped broker the initial ceasefire earlier this month. Therefore, it continues to engage both sides for peace. Sharif said Pakistan values the trust placed in its role.
In addition, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar urged both sides to stay committed. He stressed that dialogue remains the best path forward. US officials also praised Pakistan’s efforts to ease tensions.
Meanwhile, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar confirmed ongoing contact with Iran. However, Iran has not confirmed its participation yet. This decision will shape the outcome of the talks.
Key Challenges Still Exist
The first round of talks lasted many hours but ended without a deal. For example, both sides disagreed on nuclear issues and sanctions. These disagreements continue to slow progress.
The conflict began on February 28 after US and Israeli strikes. Since then, tensions have spread across the region. However, the April ceasefire reduced immediate risks.
