Pakistan Medical Council Warning: Unrecognized Postgraduate Programs Must Stop
PMDC unrecognized programs have raised serious concerns in Pakistan’s medical education sector. The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council has warned universities to stop offering unauthorized postgraduate courses immediately. It stressed that such programs violate national regulations and risk students’ futures.
Universities Told to Halt Unauthorized Courses
The council identified several institutions offering unrecognized postgraduate medical and dental programs. These include Times University Multan and NUR International University Lahore. In addition, Gomal University and Sohail University Karachi also appeared on the list.
Other universities include Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur and Khwaja Fareed University of Engineering and Information Technology. Moreover, University of Faisalabad and University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir were named.
The list continues with Hazara University and Kohat University of Science and Technology. The council stated that these institutions awarded degrees without proper accreditation.
Strict Rules and Student Impact
The council emphasized compliance with the PM&DC Act 2022. According to Section 25, universities must secure approval before launching programs. Therefore, institutions cannot bypass this process.
Section 34 also prohibits unrecognized training programs. In addition, it blocks affiliations with unauthorized courses. As a result, universities must follow strict procedures to maintain standards.
The council issued a clear directive to halt all such programs immediately. It also warned institutions against advertising or enrolling students in these courses.
Importantly, students already enrolled may face serious consequences. Their qualifications will not receive recognition or registration. Therefore, prospective trainees should verify program approval before applying.
