Paraguay World Cup Victory Keeps Knockout Hopes Alive

Paraguay World Cup Victory Keeps Knockout Hopes Alive

Paraguay secured a crucial Paraguay World Cup victory with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Turkiye on Friday. The result kept Paraguay in contention for the knockout stage. Meanwhile, the outcome also confirmed the United States as Group D winners. Matias Galarza delivered the decisive moment almost immediately. He struck from long range after only 63 seconds. His low effort slipped past goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir and gave Paraguay an early advantage. The fast start placed Turkiye under pressure. However, Paraguay could not extend their lead despite creating several promising moments. As a result, the contest remained tense until the final whistle.

Red Card Shapes Contest

The match produced a historic moment before halftime. Miguel Almiron received a red card during first-half stoppage time. Officials dismissed him after an on-field confrontation with Mert Muldur. The decision left Paraguay with ten players for the entire second half. Therefore, the team focused on defending its narrow lead. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Paraguay remained organized and disciplined. Turkiye pushed forward in search of an equalizer. However, they struggled to create clear opportunities for much of the match. Paraguay’s defense continued to frustrate their attacks.

Turkiye Exit Tournament

Turkiye’s best chance arrived in the 88th minute. Orlando Gill parried a dangerous effort into the path of Deniz Gul. Yet Gul sent his follow-up attempt wide of the target. Moments later, Merih Demiral glanced a header narrowly off target. That opportunity proved to be Turkiye’s final chance. Consequently, the defeat ended their hopes of progressing. The final whistle brought relief for Paraguay and heartbreak for Turkiye. Players from the losing side collapsed onto the pitch in disappointment. Paraguay now moves forward with renewed belief and a realistic chance of reaching the next round.
