Pixel Now Playing Redesign Rolls Out

Pixel Now Playing Redesign Rolls Out

The Pixel Now Playing redesign is finally here. Google has launched a dedicated app through the Google Play Store. Previously, the feature ran through Android System Intelligence. However, the old layout felt outdated. Now, the update introduces a fresh three-tab interface built with Material 3 Expressive design.
The first tab lets users tap to see what’s playing. After a match appears, a floating action button allows another search instantly. As a result, song discovery feels faster and more interactive.

New Features and Better Controls

The Pixel Now Playing redesign adds a reverse-chronological History tab. Users can search past matches and manage results easily. For example, you can swipe left to share or add songs to favorites. If you connect YouTube Music, you can add tracks to liked songs or playlists. In addition, a three-dot menu lets you remove items from History. The Favorites tab works much like before. Meanwhile, the lockscreen shortcut now shows larger results at the bottom of the display. This change improves visibility at a glance.

Google also added a Quick Settings tile.

The 2×1 layout shows your last match. Tap it to start a new search or long-press to open History directly. Users can update the app from the Play Store listing. Once installed, it appears with a refreshed blue Pixel-style icon on your home screen. Overall, the redesign makes music recognition cleaner and easier for Pixel owners.
