Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday said Pakistan is making rapid progress on the economic, foreign relations, and military fronts, adding that the economy has achieved stability and will now move towards sustained growth.
Addressing overseas Pakistanis at the Pakistan High Commission, the Prime Minister recalled that the country’s economy had faced a difficult period in the past. He credited the present government’s achievements to sincerity, teamwork, and persistence. “We can overcome every difficulty and make progress with cooperation, unity, and consistent efforts,” he said.
Shehbaz Sharif added that Pakistan has regained dignity among the international community. He cited his speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) where he raised the issues of Kashmir and Palestine, reflecting the sentiments of the Pakistani people. He expressed confidence that Kashmir would one day gain freedom, while also condemning the unprecedented brutality faced by the people of Gaza.
The Prime Minister said that his meeting with the U.S. President Joe Biden was constructive and would serve as a stepping stone for stronger bilateral relations. He praised overseas Pakistanis as “a precious asset and great ambassadors of the country.”
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, who accompanied the delegation, said Pakistan effectively represented national interests at around two dozen meetings during the UNGA session. He added that Pakistan, alongside Arab and Muslim countries, engaged in talks with the U.S. President of Gaza, with further meetings expected to yield positive outcomes.
Dar also noted significant improvements in the economy, with interest rates reduced to 11 percent from 22 percent and inflation down to five percent from 30 percent. He stressed that continued progress would help reduce poverty, raise incomes, and enhance Pakistan’s international standing.
Overseas Pakistanis attending the event lauded the Prime Minister’s UNGA address, particularly his forceful advocacy on Kashmir and Palestine, which they said brought pride to the nation.
