PTA SIM Verification Alert: Renew CNIC to Keep SIM Active

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has asked mobile users to renew expired CNICs to avoid SIM suspension. The PTA SIM verification campaign focuses on improving digital security and preventing illegal mobile use. Officials said SIMs linked to expired, fake, cancelled, or deceased individuals will face blocking. Therefore, citizens should update their records through the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) without delay.

PTA Tightens SIM Verification Rules

PTA said the decision will help stop fraud and unauthorized mobile activity. In addition, the authority wants telecom users to maintain updated identity records for safer communication services. Officials urged people to verify their CNIC information with mobile operators to avoid service interruptions.
Earlier, authorities approved the policy during a high-level meeting chaired by Mohsin Naqvi. Officials confirmed that only valid and active CNICs will qualify for SIM registration and continued use. As a result, people with outdated identification documents may lose mobile access.
The telecom regulator also encouraged users to complete CNIC renewal quickly. For example, citizens can visit NADRA centers nationwide to update their records and reactivate services if required.

Expired CNICs to Face Phased Blocking

Officials said the crackdown will happen in different phases across Pakistan. In the first phase, authorities will block SIMs linked to CNICs that expired in 2017 or earlier. However, later phases will target CNICs cancelled after 2017.
NADRA officials explained that many SIMs still operate under inactive or deceased individuals’ identities. Therefore, authorities want stricter monitoring to reduce misuse and strengthen national security. Updated records will also help telecom companies provide safer and more reliable services.
PTA advised citizens to renew expired CNICs immediately to stay connected and avoid disruptions in daily communication.
