Punjab Flood Prevention Projects Approved Ahead of Monsoon
Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that Punjab flood prevention is the government’s top priority before the monsoon season. He stated that authorities are taking timely steps to protect citizens from financial and human losses caused by floods. Therefore, the Punjab government approved several major protection projects during a meeting at the Provincial Disaster Management
Authority (PDMA) Headquarters.
Khawaja Salman Rafique chaired the Cabinet Committee on Disaster Management meeting on Thursday. During the session, officials reviewed projects designed to prevent river erosion and protect vulnerable villages and farmland. In addition, the committee discussed emergency planning and coordination among departments across Punjab.
Government Approves Major Safety Projects
The committee approved emergency measures worth Rs94.49 million to protect Biraj Cheema and Biraj Dhalla villages from Chenab River erosion. Officials also sanctioned a Rs100 million project for the construction of a safety dam in Jhang.
Similarly, authorities approved another Rs99.95 million project to expand a safety dam near the PARCO pipeline. The expansion will help protect nearby communities and reduce flood risks. Moreover, officials approved Rs98.74 million for the protection of Thatti Baloch village.
Another project worth Rs86.71 million will safeguard Garhi Gulla and Ratta villages from erosion caused by river flows. Furthermore, the committee approved a major protective dam project on the Ravi River costing Rs283.481 million.
Punjab Strengthens Flood Preparedness
The committee directed authorities to immediately protect agricultural land affected by Chenab River erosion. Officials also approved protective measures worth Rs34.394 million for Ganda Singh Wala in Kasur.
Meanwhile, another Rs99.95 million project will address flood-related erosion in Labanwala village, Sheikhupura. Authorities also approved a flood protection scheme for Dhanghana in Mianwali.
Khawaja Salman Rafique said the Punjab government continues to take practical decisions under the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to strengthen Punjab flood prevention efforts before heavy rains begin.
