Punjab Schools to Create Health Profiles for 300,000+ Students with Special Needs

Punjab is taking a major step toward student well-being. The School Education Department is preparing health profiles for students across the province. The goal is to enhance both health and academic performance.
Preliminary surveys have already revealed significant data. More than 300,000 students face some form of health difficulty. These range from minor issues to severe, life-affecting conditions.
The numbers tell a clear story. 258,000 students have minor health issues. Another 37,000 face moderate problems. Critically, 8,500 students experience severe health difficulties.

Vision, Hearing, and Mobility Challenges

Vision problems affect tens of thousands of children. Mild vision issues impact 32,500 students. Moderate cases number 2,560. Severe vision difficulties affect 2,349 students.
Hearing problems are also widespread. Mild hearing issues affect 21,000 students. Moderate cases are reported in 21 students. Severe hearing difficulties impact 1,341 children.
Mobility challenges cannot be overlooked. Walking or climbing stairs is difficult for many. Mild mobility issues affect 16,000 students. Moderate cases total 2,061. Severe mobility challenges impact 1,232 students.

A Commitment to Inclusive Education

The education department is responding with concrete measures. Special facilities will be provided for students with additional needs. A comprehensive learning strategy is being developed.
This is not just about infrastructure. It is about individualized care. Every student will eventually receive personal attention based on their health profile. Necessary medical support will follow.
Schools are already taking immediate action. Free milk and biscuits are being distributed regularly. This improves children’s nutrition and overall health. It is a simple but effective intervention.
Once all health profiles are completed, the real work begins. Individual care plans will be implemented. Medical support will be tailored to each child’s needs. The ultimate aim is simple: better health leads to better learning.
