Punjab to Introduce AI Scanner for Early Disease Detection

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved plans to introduce an artificial intelligence-powered multi-disease scanner. The technology could make medical screening faster and help doctors identify diseases earlier.

The chief minister received a briefing during a meeting with senior executives from Alibaba, a Chinese technology company. She gave in-principle approval and asked health authorities to prepare a pilot project.

Faster Disease Screening

The AI-powered Multi-Disease Screening Solution uses non-contrast CT scans. According to the briefing, it can potentially detect up to 10 diseases within two minutes.

The system supports screening, diagnosis, treatment and disease management. It could also help doctors assess patients quickly and provide information during evaluations.

Importantly, the technology focuses on the early detection of several fatal cancers. These include gastric, pancreatic, esophageal, colorectal and liver cancers.

Wider Health Applications

The scanner can assess pancreatic and liver cancers. It can also screen for Acute Aortic Syndrome and evaluate risks from cardiovascular diseases.

In addition, the system can assess fat and muscle health. It may support osteoporosis assessments, identify bone weakness and help detect fatty liver disease.

These features could make the technology useful across healthcare. However, doctors would continue using conventional methods alongside the system.

Pilot Project Planned

The technology will complement existing medical practices rather than replace doctors or standard diagnostic tools. Therefore, healthcare professionals can use its findings as an additional resource during patient assessments.

Maryam Nawaz showed strong interest in the system during the meeting. She directed provincial health authorities to develop plans for a pilot project in Punjab.

The government has not announced where or when the technology will launch. More details may emerge as officials develop the pilot project.

If introduced successfully, the scanner could strengthen Punjab’s healthcare system. It may also support earlier detection, faster assessments and more informed medical decisions.
