Rewind 99 Revives the Last Video Store in a Co-Op Sim

Step behind the counter of a forgotten era in this upcoming retail simulator. Rewind 99 launches in Steam Early Access in March 2026, tasking you with saving the world’s last video rental store. Set in a vibrant low-poly 1999, you’ll battle the futuristic streaming giant RentNet by managing inventory, assisting customers, and exploring the town of Reshoot Springs. The game blends deep store management with open-world exploration and unconventional side hustles for a unique nostalgia trip.

Manage a Living Store in a Bygone Era

Your role extends beyond typical retail duties; you must order VHS tapes, snacks, and toys while keeping daily operations smooth. The world outside your shop is full of life, allowing you to ride scooters, uncover town secrets, and engage in strange side activities. These can include creating your own movies, organizing underground fight clubs, or trying your luck with scratch cards.
This creates a simulation where the store and the world feel deeply connected. Developer Richard Heyne aimed to build a game that fully commits to both retail management and living within its setting. Consequently, Rewind 99 offers a fantasy that is as much about running a business as it is about surviving in a quirky community.

Solo or Co-Op Nostalgia Hustle

The game features seamless cooperative play, allowing friends to share the struggle and success of keeping the store afloat. Gunmetal Games plans to support the title throughout Early Access with updates that expand the world, add new goods, and introduce stranger challenges.
A playable demo is scheduled for mid-February, and the game will participate in Steam Next Fest starting February 23. Players can wishlist Rewind 99 on Steam now to get notified upon launch. Ultimately, it’s a love letter to a bygone retail experience wrapped in engaging simulation mechanics.
