The future of Satellite Internet Pakistan looks more promising. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has finalized a draft licensing framework for Fixed Satellite Services. Officials completed consultations with industry stakeholders. After that, they forwarded the framework to the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication for review.
The ministry will now send the proposal to the Federal Cabinet of Pakistan. Cabinet approval remains necessary before companies can apply for operational licenses. Therefore, this step is crucial for launch timelines. Industry experts believe approval could speed up deployment. As a result, remote and underserved areas may finally gain better broadband access.
What the New Framework Means
The proposed rules aim to simplify regulatory procedures. In addition, they open the market to global and local satellite operators. However, rollout efforts have faced delays. Officials cited complex approvals and security concerns as key obstacles. Multiple agencies must clear applications, which slows progress.
The Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board has completed its consultations. Still, authorities are finalizing coordination mechanisms for satellite operations. Companies must register with the board before seeking PTA licenses.
Under the new framework, licenses will remain valid for 15 years. Authorities will issue them on a simplified and non-exclusive basis. Operators can also build gateway earth stations and offer broadband, backhaul, and enterprise services. Pakistan now stands at a mon important digital milestone. If approvals move smoothly, satellite connectivity could expand nationwide. Consequently, communities with limited infrastructure may soon connect more easily.
