Sindh Fire Safety Crackdown Targets High-Risk Buildings
Sindh fire safety has become a top priority after officials uncovered serious safety gaps in buildings. The province now wants to prevent deadly incidents. Therefore, authorities have decided to act fast and protect communities.
Fire Safety Survey Shows Serious Problems
A Sindh government committee inspected buildings across the province. The results raised major concerns. Officials found that 91.3 percent of surveyed buildings lacked proper fire safety arrangements.
The government formed this panel after the tragic Gul Plaza fire. That blaze killed nearly 80 people and injured hundreds. In addition, it financially devastated thousands of families and business owners.
Officials say they cannot ignore these dangers anymore. They want safer public spaces for everyone. As a result, fire safety has become a key focus in Sindh.
Government Plans Sealing of Unsafe Buildings
The Sindh government will seal high-risk buildings that break fire safety laws. Authorities will take strict action against serious violations. This decision came during a high-level fire safety meeting in Karachi.
Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah chaired the meeting. Senior officials from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority also attended. Moreover, commissioners and deputy commissioners joined to discuss enforcement.
Inspectors checked 3,633 buildings across Sindh. They declared 889 buildings as high risk due to severe shortcomings. However, officials also warned medium- and low-risk buildings.
Authorities instructed owners to fix safety issues quickly. For example, buildings may need fire alarms, emergency exits, and extinguishers. Owners must also train staff for emergencies.
If management fails to act, the government may impose tougher measures. Therefore, officials urge cooperation from all sectors. Sindh hopes these steps will prevent future tragedies. Fire safety requires shared responsibility. With stronger enforcement, the province aims to create safer and more inclusive spaces for all residents.
