Sindh Government Boosts Urban Development and Education Projects Across Karachi
The Sindh government is moving fast on several major urban development plans in Karachi. These Sindh development projects aim to improve daily life and create long-term benefits for residents. In addition, the city is seeing steady progress on roadwork, water supply upgrades, and civic improvements.
Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon shared key updates on these initiatives. He said the city now has nine major projects in progress, worth Rs 7.66 billion. KDA is also working on 76 projects valued at Rs 13.22 billion. Meanwhile, KMC is carrying out 200 projects with a budget of Rs 18.36 billion. As a result, multiple neighborhoods are experiencing visible upgrades.
Furthermore, the KW&SC and Lyari Development Authority are completing several important infrastructure works. The Hub Canal and Damloti Water Pipeline projects will finish within a year. These improvements will supply 10 MGD of water to DHA. This will help reduce shortages and improve water access for thousands of families.
The Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project is also moving ahead. Its first phase, backed by international support, costs Rs 25.47 billion. The second phase will modernize the city’s old water and sewerage system for Rs 167.10 billion. This upgrade will help Karachi manage future population growth.
Major Education Projects in Progress
The Sindh government is also strengthening the education sector. Work continues on 1,280 education units under 130 schemes this year. These projects cost Rs 15.57 billion, and Rs 1.88 billion has already been released.
In addition, Rs 12.33 billion is being spent on rebuilding flood-affected schools in 30 districts. Twenty girls’ schools in five districts have also been upgraded with support from JICA. These improvements will create safer and more inclusive learning spaces.
Finally, the Karachi Development Plan for 2025–26 includes 756 schemes. This list covers ongoing work, carry-forward projects, and 43 new initiatives to support future growth.
