Sindh High Court Orders Report on Karachi Zoo Animal Welfare

The Sindh High Court has ordered authorities to submit a full report on Karachi Zoo animal welfare. The court issued the directive after approving the transfer of brown bear Rano to a sanctuary for urgent medical treatment.
The court made the decision on Tuesday, expressing concern over the poor living conditions of animals at the zoo. Judges said every animal deserves proper care, food, and a safe environment. The move marks a major step toward improving animal rights and welfare standards in the city.SHC Demands Transparency
The Sindh High Court directed the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and other departments to provide a detailed report. The report must include the health, diet, and living conditions of all zoo animals. Officials must also mention steps taken to improve veterinary care and cleanliness. The judges emphasized that transparency is key to restoring public trust. They noted that animals are living beings and must not suffer due to neglect or poor management.

Activists Welcome Court Move

Animal welfare activists welcomed the decision. They said the court’s action could push authorities to ensure better treatment for animals across Pakistan. Many citizens have long raised concerns about the state of the Karachi Zoo, calling it unsafe and unhygienic.
The transfer of Rano the bear is seen as a symbol of hope. Advocates believe this order could lead to stronger animal protection laws and better zoo management in the future.
