Snapchat Animates its Lens Brings AI Video Creation to Snaps

Snapchat is adding more creativity to its platform. The company has launched the Snapchat Animate It Lens for the holiday season. This new feature is available to Lens+ subscribers. The new Lens allows users to create animated videos using text prompts. For example, someone can ask for a cat animation. The Lens then adds a moving character to the Snap. As a result, users can turn ideas into short videos in seconds. Snap says the feature uses its own AI video generation model.

A Shift for the Company

Previously, Snapchat relied on external AI tools for many features. Therefore, this update shows Snap’s growing focus on in-house AI development.
Animate It builds on Snapchat’s earlier video AI Lenses. Those tools launched in March and offered preset options. Users could add animated raccoons, foxes, or flowers. However, customization stayed limited.
The Snapchat Animate It Lens offers more freedom. Users can now describe what they want to see. The AI then creates motion based on the prompt. This makes each Snap feel more personal and expressive.
Even so, questions remain about performance. Snap does not have the same AI scale as larger tech companies. Still, the feature could boost engagement during the holidays.

Snapchat Continues to Focus on Playful Tools

These features encourage creativity without requiring advanced skills. In addition, short animated videos fit well with how people already use the app. Animate It is currently exclusive to Lens+ subscribers. For paying users, it adds another reason to experiment. Overall, the Snapchat Animate It Lens shows how AI can enhance everyday social sharing.
