Snapchat Topic Chats Bring Public Group Discussions to the App

Snapchat is expanding its social features with the launch of Snapchat Topic Chats. The new tool invites people to join public conversations around trending events and shared interests. As a result, the platform aims to deepen engagement and offer a broader communication space.
Snapchat says users already create billions of Snaps each day. People also enjoy reacting publicly to major moments through Spotlight and comments. Therefore, the company designed Topic Chats to support these bigger, community driven conversations.

A New Way to Talk About Trending Moments

Topic Chats let anyone join discussions about news, pop culture, or events happening around the world. In addition, related Snaps will appear inside each chat to add more context and make conversations feel richer.
Snapchat also highlights a social discovery element. For example, people can see when their friends join a Topic Chat, making it easier to find shared interests. Chats you participate in will also move to the top of the Topic Chat page, which keeps the experience simple and accessible.
The feature will roll out in the U.S., Canada, and New Zealand over the coming weeks. Users will start seeing Topic Chats appear across the app. This includes Chat shortcuts, search, and the Stories page. Over time, Snapchat may expand availability based on community response.

A Shift From Private to Public Conversations

Snapchat has always focused on private messaging. However, Topic Chats show a shift toward more open interactions. The company says community behavior inspired the change, and it hopes the feature will help people connect in new ways.
