Streamer Emiru Assaulted at TwitchCon 2025: Safety on Spotlight
Emiru, a well-known streamer and cosplayer, was assaulted during a meet-and-greet at TwitchCon 2025 in San Diego. A male attendee approached her without consent, grabbed her, and attempted to kiss her before security intervened. The incident was caught on video and quickly spread online.
The platform issued a statement affirming it takes creator safety “extremely seriously.” They confirmed the individual was removed from the venue and banned indefinitely from future events. However, many attendees and creators remain critical of the event’s security arrangements.
Community Reaction and Safety Concerns
The streaming community reacted swiftly. Many creators spoke out about how this incident underscores long-standing safety issues at large conventions. Some high-profile streamers had already opted out of attending TwitchCon due to such concerns.
In response, event organisers announced enhanced security measures including increased staffing around high-profile attendees, stricter entry checks, and a review of meet-and-greet protocols. Nonetheless, some believe that these measures may still fall short until comprehensive changes are made.
For Emiru, the incident added to previous harassment concerns she has faced, increasing focus on the risks female creators often experience in both online and offline spaces.
