Swat Suicide Blast Kills Seven Outside Kabal Police Station
A Swat suicide blast killed at least seven people and injured 18 others outside Kabal police station on Sunday. Police stopped the attacker before he entered the building. However, the bomber detonated explosives at the main gate. As a result, the powerful blast caused multiple casualties and damaged the surrounding area. Emergency teams rushed to the scene within minutes and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals.
Police Prevent Bigger Attack
Swat District Police Officer Umar Gandapur confirmed the death toll and said 18 people suffered serious injuries. Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General Syed Fida Hussain explained how the attack unfolded.
According to the DIG, the suicide bomber tried to enter Kabal police station. A police officer blocked his path before he reached the building. Therefore, the attacker exploded the device at the entrance instead.
Officials said the police lines and several sensitive government buildings stand near the station. Because of the officer’s quick action, authorities believe they prevented a much larger tragedy. Initial reports showed that four police officers suffered serious injuries. In addition, two civilians also sustained wounds.
Rescue Teams Continue Operations
Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Ahmad Faizi said emergency workers immediately launched rescue operations. They transported more than 15 injured people to different hospitals for treatment. Meanwhile, medical staff remained on alert to handle additional emergencies.
A youth protest was taking place in the area. However, police clarified that the demonstration was some distance from the blast site and had no link to the attack.
Security forces have sealed the area and started collecting evidence. Investigators will examine the scene, identify those behind the Swat suicide blast, and determine how the attacker reached the police station. Authorities have also tightened security across the district to prevent similar attacks.
