TikTok Creator Brittany Miller Apologizes for False Cancer Claim
TikTok influencer Brittany Miller has issued a public apology after admitting she lied about having cancer. The Oxfordshire born creator, known for her food and lifestyle videos, shared an emotional video on Monday addressing the controversy.
Miller, who has more than 3.5 million followers, said the false claim began with one stupid sentence she deeply regrets. I said something to someone within my immediate circle in confidence, she explained. I said I had cancer. It wasn’t done with malicious intent or to scam anyone. I did it out of desperation, hoping to keep the people in my life close.
Incident Dates Back to 2017
The 29 year old said the lie happened in 2017 during a period of severe mental health struggles. I was depressed, suicidal, and completely lost, she said. That year, I lost my job and my partner, and my mental health was at its worst.
Miller added that a friend, not her, created a fundraising page under her name. As soon as I saw donations coming in, I had the page shut down immediately. I didn’t take any money, she said.
The creator emphasized that it wasn’t a long-term scam. I know how horrible cancer is and how deeply it affects families. For that, I am truly sorry, she said tearfully.
Since the incident, Miller has rebuilt her online presence with parenting, cooking, and shopping content. Thames Valley Police confirmed that their investigation into the case had ended, though they did not comment on earlier fraud claims.
