TLP Protests Disrupt Karachi as Sindh Enforces Section 144
Supporters of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) launched protests at several locations across Karachi on Monday and disrupted city traffic. Demonstrators began gathering in the afternoon and quickly spread to nearby areas. They occupied Nala Stop and North Karachi’s 4K Chowrangi, blocking main roads with barriers and vehicles. Protesters threw stones at cars and damaged several of them. The roadblocks trapped thousands of commuters for hours. Many people left their cars and walked long distances to reach home as traffic crawled under the blazing sun.
City Disrupted by Protests
Police teams rushed to the protest sites and cleared some routes to ease traffic flow. Officers arrested several demonstrators for damaging vehicles and disturbing public peace. They urged citizens to stay away from the affected areas and follow official traffic updates. The Karachi Traffic Police shared alternate routes through social media and radio alerts. Despite their efforts, congestion slowed movement across major roads until late evening. Public transport drivers complained about delays, while residents demanded stronger action against repeat offenders. Motorists expressed frustration and called on authorities to keep roads open for ambulances and essential services.
Ban on Gatherings in Sindh
The Sindh government enforced a one-month ban on protests, sit-ins, and rallies under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Inspector General Ghulam Nabi Memon recommended the decision after reviewing reports from police zones that warned of rising unrest. The government directed law-enforcement officers to stop illegal gatherings and register cases under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Officials said they will continue monitoring sensitive areas to maintain peace and protect citizens. Authorities promised swift action against anyone who challenges the order or disrupts public life.
