Two-Thirds of the World Now Use Social Media

The Digital 2026 Report has revealed major digital milestones this year. One striking insight shows that more than two-thirds of people on Earth now use social media.
According to Kepios’s analysis, the world counts around 5.66 billion active social media user identities. That equals 68.7 percent of the global population. In simpler terms, for every person not using social media, there are now two who do.

The Rise of Global Connectivity

This growth highlights how deeply social media shapes daily life. People connect, learn, and express themselves across platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and X. As digital access expands, more communities join global conversations.
However, Kepios notes that these numbers represent social media user identities, not necessarily unique individuals. Many users manage multiple accounts, while some regions still face limited internet access. Therefore, the real number of individual users may be slightly lower.

What This Means for the Future

The growing reach of social media marks a shift in communication and culture. Brands, educators, and communities are adapting to this connected world. In addition, more people are using digital tools for business, entertainment, and social change.
As we move toward 2026, this trend will likely continue. Social media isn’t just a part of life anymore—it’s how the world connects.
