Warlock – A New D&D Video Game Revealed at The Game Awards
A new Dungeons & Dragons video game titled Warlock was revealed at The Game Awards, developed by Invoke Studios and set for a 2026 release. The game focuses on the story of Kaatri, a warlock character voiced by Tricia Helfer, who wields supernatural powers and weapons in a dark, expressive open world. The announcement follows the studio’s previous title, Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance, which faced significant criticism at launch.
A Fresh Start for the Studio
The game is being developed by Invoke Studios, a rebranded version of Tuque Games, which developed the troubled Dark Alliance. Studio leadership has stated the team learned from past mistakes, with the new title shifting to a single-player, open-world format to provide a more focused experience. This change aims to address previous issues with multiplayer functionality and gameplay challenge that plagued their last D&D project.
The trailer showcased gothic, feathery imagery hinting at the involvement of the Raven Queen, along with combat against undead and a Death Kiss Beholder. As a class-based game, it promises to incorporate elements like the Pact of the Blade, offering players deep customization of their warlock’s abilities and invocations directly from the tabletop roleplaying game.
Cautious Optimism from the Community
The reception is mixed, with excitement for a new D&D single-player experience tempered by skepticism due to the developer’s history. Jeff Hattem, VP of Creative at Invoke, expressed confidence in the team’s new direction and lessons learned. The gaming community remains cautiously optimistic, awaiting substantive gameplay reveals in 2026 to judge if the studio can successfully redeem itself and deliver a compelling warlock fantasy.
If successful, Warlock could mark a significant comeback for the studio within the D&D video game landscape. The project represents one of several new D&D games in development, aiming to capture the magic of the franchise in digital form.
